The Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury published the Tax Laws (Amendment Bill), 2020 on 2 April, 2020 for parliamentary review. This comes a week after the government published relief measures to cope with COVID-19. The Bill has incorporated some of the measures proposed by His Excellency by President Uhuru Kenyatta to cushion the economy against COVID-19 effects.
Some of the proposals contained in the Tax Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2020, had been introduced by the Income Tax Bill, 2018, which we anticipate will be passed into law this year. The Bill is set for reading and approval once parliament resumes on Tuesday 7th April.
